Jim Morrell . . .
Passed away peacefully at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, June 9th, 2026, Jim Morrell of Williamsburg, age 70. Loving husband of Nancy Morrell (nee Strader) for 45 years. Loving father of James (Kelly) and Robert, both of Williamsburg. Dear brother of Gerry (Judy) of Johnstown, Roger (Jane) of Gananoque and Perry (Kathy) of Morrisburg. Jim will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Jack and Kate.
He was predeceased by his parents Don and Melba Morrell. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A fierce competitor. One of the best pitchers around. A guy who threw heat, had a rise ball that hitters still talk about. An incredible coach. A storyteller. A man who could make friends anywhere he went... and maybe a few worthy foes along the way.
He taught his son James so much without ever trying to. Work hard. Be loyal to your family and friends. Don't take life too seriously. And never pass up the chance to enjoy a cold beer with good people.
His greatest joy in recent years was being Grandpa to his two grandchildren, Kate and Jack. He loved nothing more than watching them play the sports he loved so much. Kate, following in his footsteps on the pitching mound, and Jack chasing pucks on the ice. We know he’ll still be watching every pitch, every shift, and cheering them on every step of the way.
If you knew him, take a moment today to tell one of his stories, share a laugh, or raise a glass in his honour. Whether you shared a dugout with him, stood in the batter's box trying to catch up to his fastball, or simply had the privilege of knowing him, I hope he left you with a memory that makes you smile.
Funeral Arrangements . . .
There won't be a traditional service because that wasn't his style. Instead, we'll celebrate his life at a future date (to be determined), and we'll let everyone know when the time comes. It'll be exactly how he wanted it—with family, friends, stories, laughter, and a few cold ones.
Donations to Dundas County Hospice would be gratefully acknowledged by the family. If you are making your donation online or by cheque directly to the charity, please include the following note with your gift “please notify the family”.
