Playhouse expands 2023 line-up . . .

Friday, Dec. 2nd - Morrisburg’s Upper Canada Playhouse celebrates 4 decades as a professional live theatre company with an all new format for their 2023 Season of laughter and music. The new format offers patrons more shows than ever.

The Eastern Ontario theatre company has grown from its early days in a tent, along a rural country road. The theatre's  current location is in a fully renovated, former argyle sock / toothbrush factory, in the quaint village of Morrisburg, along the fittingly picturesque St. Lawrence River.

Along with its status as one of the country’s longest producing theatre companies, Upper Canada Playhouse’s audience has continually grown, drawing patrons from Ottawa, Montreal, Brockville and the many smaller communities dotting this Kingston to Quebec eastern Ontario triangle. The Playhouse also prides itself on being a major tourism driver and a significant contributor to the economic and cultural fabric of a growing South Dundas and many of the surrounding tai-county Stormont Dundas & Glengarry communities.

The 2023 Season was planned to attract some of the finest talent in the country, offering shows to run through all four seasons. Audiences can chase away the winter blues with two Winter Wild Weekend Concerts of previous sell-out hits. These limited engagements will begin with Glory Days! February 17th thru 19th. It’s a return of the concert from artists who got their start at the Troubadour Club. Across The Pond, Leisa Way’s concert of hits from The British Invasion, follows March 31 thru April 2. And country music continues May 9th thru May 21st with Honky Tonk Angels, hits from Loretta Lynn and more legendary ladies from the country music scene.

The Playhouse’s flagship summer comedy series will offer five shows next season instead of the usual four. Flex passes for this series can be purchased at any time during the season. The Summer Season opens June 8th thru 25th with Moving In, the premiere of a new Norm Foster play about a couple’s attempts to move in together in the face of one obstacle after another.

Following Foster's latest  July 6th thru 23rd is the hilarious comedy Who’s Under Where? about two fashion designers who rent a hotel suite to display their line of men’s underwear to a potential client. Enter two jealous husbands and hilarious chaos ensues. Buying the Farm, a popular new play about a city real estate agent’s attempts to convince a farmer to sell his property, follows July 27th and plays til August 13th

Another Foster comedy hit, Drinking Alone, takes the stage August 17th through September 3rd. This hilarious and heart-warming comedy centres around an unforgettable and dysfunctional family reunion when Joe plans a birthday party for his estranged father and hires an escort to pose as his fiancé to impress his Dad. Wrapping up the summer series is the blockbuster comedy hit Shirley Valentine. A working-class housewife is so bored with her life that she talks to the wall and dreams of dropping everything and going to Greece. This legendary and crowd-pleasing comedy tour de force takes the Playhouse stage by storm September 14th thru October 1st.

Hot on the heels of the summer series The Playhouse welcomes the world famous DuffleBag Theatre Company to the stage for two performances at 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm, Saturday October 14th with their interactive production of The Three Musketeers for children and families.

Lucien and Jimmy the Janitor return with their new show A Short History of Nuthin, October 17th thru 22nd. This one promises to fill the theatre with laughter as these two Maritime comedy gems look at what the heck has happened the past three years!

The 2023 Season concludes on a musical note when Leisa Way and the Wayward Wind Band bring their New Christmas concert Home For The Holidays to the Playhouse stage, December 5th thru 17th. Filled with everyone’s favourite Yuletide songs, this entertaining concert will also feature fun audience participation and sing-a-longs.

Tickets and flex passes for the 2023 Season are currently on sale at the Playhouse Box Office.
