Saturday, Dec. 7th - North Dundas’ combined Bantam B House team, which includes several South Dundas residents, stands very near the basement door in regular season action in the Upper Canada Minor Hockey League standings. But on the past weekend the team travelled to Finch for a 1-day hockey tournament and came away with all the hardware.
Cam Shaver led the scorers in the opening game against the Orleans Rush Bantam B2 entry with the Demons taking a 6-4 victory and advancing to the next round. Shaver notched a hat-trick, scoring a single in each of the three periods. Sam Hart, Myles Smith and Cam Oulette each added single counters.
In their second challenge the Demons came out firing and didn’t stop until the final buzzer sounded. Following a 2-1 opening period lead the North Dundas team cut loose in the middle period for six goals and then added another five counters in the closing frame.
Luke Byvelds led the Demons onslaught with a trio of goals and assists for a 6-point game. Myles Smith, Nolan Stewart, William Miller and Cam Shaver each scored a pair and singles went to James Martens and Logan Tait.
Advancing to the A Division final the Demons went against the Prescott Russell Fusion in a heated battle of three periods of back and forth, exciting hockey. North Dundas took a 2-0, 1st-period lead, gave up a goal to the Fusion midway through the middle period and scored their third counter, eventually recorded as the winning goal, late in the middle period.
In the third period the Fusion rallied, scoring with little more than three minutes remaining, but not being able to tie the game prior to the final buzzer.
Cam Shaver, Sam Hart and Ben Forrester netted the singles for the Demons in this championship encounter.
